Spider

As any day before guests arrives usually is, today was a cleaning day.

I started with the downstairs bathroom which was dirtier than usual because John and I have actually been using it regularly. (Our shower and bathroom sink are still clogged. A plumber is coming on Monday.)

There has been a spider living in that bathroom but he doesn't always come out of hiding. When he does though, watch out. He once dropped right into my face while I was trying to brush my teeth and although I generally don't mind spiders I do mind them suddenly appearing in my face. The spider made an appearance while I was cleaning and I decided to take the opportunity to relocate him since my sister-in-law does not like spiders. I caught him and dropped him out the window which was already open to lower cleaning fumes. Several minutes later he caught a breeze and flew back into the bath tub. I removed him once again and this time I shut the window after he was out. Sorry Mr. Long Legs, but this is not the place for you!

After that I turned my office into a bedroom, straightened up the living room and even swept the stairs. My sinuses are irritated and the flat is more or less presentable. Sounds like a typical day of cleaning.

Dear American Librarian in Norwich, England: How can I e-mail you privately? I was in Norwich last year and will go again soon to do further research on US poet Hyam Plutzik (1911-1962) who was stationed at Norwich and Shiphdam during WWII. He wrote some of his finest "war" poetry during this period, and also assisted Lord Mayor RH Mottram in supporting local Norwich libraries. Plutzik went on to publish several critically acclaimed collections of poetry, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. I have materials that might be of interest to your "storytelling" project.

Hi Sarah Beth! Last time I was in Norwich, I came across a spider that left me on top of a chair screaming like a little old lady. It was the size of a very tall big daddy long legs, was jet-black, and ran Soooooooo fast! I think the friends I was visiting called it a Huntsman. Holy moly -- at least the spiders here move slowly! Have you seen any of those?

Also -- I'm headed your way this Thursday through next week. I know it is strange because we only know each other through the web, but if you find yourself with nothing to do on Monday the 22nd -- I'll be in town with my sweetie and we may visit that Belgian Monk pub. Let me know if you're up for an adventure and a raspberry beer! My email is: racheljohnson77@gmail.com

Ok, so I just now read this. THANK YOU for getting rid of the spider. You are forever in my debt and if we didn't already have the same names, I'd name a kid after you. :) But seriously, thanks, I know no one wanted to wake up to me screaming about a spider.
