Renegade Eyebrow Hair

John has this one eyebrow hair that, like, doesn't stop growing and is curly and is.....a RENEGADE!

I finally convinced him to let me pull it out several weeks ago because it had grown so long it was poking him in the eye. It's not that I need John to have perfect eyebrows or anything. It's just that it's distracting. You know, I'll be trying to look lovingly at him, and there is this renegade eyebrow hair staring back at me. Anyway, I pulled it out and I thought that was the end of it.

But no. The hair has grown back. At first it wasn't obvious. It looked like a normal eyebrow hair. But it has shown it's true colors. Long and curly. It's going for his eye again. I can tell.

A Shave and a Haircut

While I was doing yoga and writing a book review this morning, John went into town to find a place that would give him a haircut and shave his face for him. It's a good job* he did, too because his facial stubbery was beginning to qualify as an actual beard.

*The British tend to say "good job" where we would say "good thing." I tried to find an article making mention of this, but what I found instead was an article on Oxford's list of top ten irritating phrases. "Good job" isn't on the list, but someone brings it up in the comments....wait for it....as an annoying American phrase. In fact, a lot of the complaints in the comments are about how Americans butcher the English language. That's why we have our own dictionary now. It's like we're living in different countries with different cultures and different ways of expressing ourselves or something.

Migration

I moved my office upstairs into our bedroom. This is partly because I felt a little crowded in the old office and mostly because I felt cold. It is much warmer upstairs.

But future visitors, don't worry. I'll get a nice fluffy comforter to go on the bed in the downstairs room.

I had a picture of my new office set up but I can't get it to upload. I will withhold my theory on why this has happened. It is probably unrelated to the fact that John just got an expansion pack for World of Warcraft and is using up all our bandwidth playing it. At least, that's what the computer genius man says.

Lappy

Some people are mystified by computers. When their computer malfunctions they imagine that the machine has turned against them. I can't claim to exactly be computer savvy, but I know that everything happens for a reason. And I knew that when Lappy refused to let me past the log in screen yesterday, it was probably my fault.

Yesterday morning, while eating my daily bowl of cereal, I was checking my e-mail. The updates icon started jumping and instead of clicking on "remind me later" as I have been doing for months, I said, "What the heck." But about five minutes into the update process I changed my mind. I really wanted to read my e-mail right then. And the updates were taking a long time. I clicked the red x. Nothing happened. I tried alt, open-apple, esc. Nothing happened. I pushed the power button. Lappy turned off. Good, now I was back on track for checking e-mails. But when Lappy came back on and I tried to sign in, the screen changed like I was going to get in to my computer and then....no, back to the log in screen. John says one of the updates probably affected the log in and I didn't let it finish updating, so it got stuck.

I drew myself some pictures of what firewire cable endings look like and rode into town by myself. (John was too sore to ride his bike anymore and I didn't want to walk.) I actually managed to buy all the correct things and kept them from flying out of my basket with the bungee cords John got for me the other day!

Today, Lappy is still not better, but I have high hopes. John is a computer genius man. And I....I am gaining proficiency the hard way.

The Garden

The mud room.

The walk from the mud room to the garden.

The back deck.

The brick grill.

Plants! And a lawn mower! And a composting bin!

I "gardened" for the first time this morning. I did take down one clothes line, but one of the spiders made a convincing argument for leaving the other one up. Namely, he refused to get off of it and climbed inside a clothes pin.

Because there are so many spiders, I decided there wasn't much I could do without gloves. I did trim back the rosemary plant. You can't tell in the picture, but there is another plant between the rosemary and the bigger leafy shrub. It has sent out long tendrils, I think because it was not getting enough sunlight. Maybe it will now.

I also mowed, but I'm not sure I made much of an improvement. The lawn mower blades may need sharpening.

I found moldy things in the compost bin. The pamphlet on the refrigerator about the compost bin says it probably needs more nitrogen-creating compostable material. Hopefully the grass clippings I put in today will help.

The Day

We signed a lease on our flat today!!!!

I may not be able to post as frequently over the next week since lappy and I will have to go to a hot spot to do so until the flat has internet.

But you can expect jubilation!
